Continuing Education Centre

governance
SNVF is involved in continuing education programmes in collaboration with the State Literacy Mission. The federation has been running a continuing education centre for the neo literates and school drop outs since 1999 at Pulluvila.  A child development group and library function at the centre.

The centre conducts activities to inculcate reading habit among children, and also to nurture their creative talent.  Two teachers appointed by the State Literacy Mission offer their services to the centre.  The centre has been able to make a mark in the educational and cultural context of the region.

Adult Literacy Intervention

governance
An innovative initiative has been the ‘write and sign your name’ programme. In 2006, the Anjengo Regional Committee decided on a mission to enable its members to at least write and sign their names. Earlier the members used to mark a cross or put thumbprint against their names. The Regional Committee decided to change the scenario and towards this end started literacy classes in the regional office. Initially members were reluctant to participate in this initiative. To ensure attendance from its members, ability to sign and write was made a compulsory criterion for availing credit. Today the situation has changed and more than ninety percent of members, both young and old, in the Anjengo region have learned to write and put their signature.

Educational Scholarship

Each time SNVF provides Rs.20,000 as part of the Family Welfare Scheme fund, a contribution of Rs.1000 is taken towards the Education Fund. A scholarship amount of Rs.500 is given to the best performing children of members. One child is chosen from each region for the same.

High School going children of those members insured under the Janshri Bhima Yojana of the Life Insurance Corporation of India receive an annual scholarship of Rs.1200 for three years.
