SNVF's field presence extends from Thoothoor in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu state to Anjengo in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala. It strives to improve the socio-economic status of women from coastal communities through micro finance and related activities.

SNVF is the apex federation of 72 Primary Level Societies and 9 Self Help Groups (SHGs). All the societies are registered entities. SNVF is registered under the Travancore Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act, 1955.
